Eagle Eye, I don't think the "Marlin Jam" is nearly as common as the internet would indicate, but its a design thing, not really caliber specific. Most of the bigger sporting goods stores around here have the cowboy version of the 1894, which would give you a feel for the 1894s. As far as recoil goes, the 357 will always have much less recoil.
