And I'm going to guess the higher charges weren't much of an accuracy brag, either? Velocity dropping with increasing powder charge is one of the many pressure signs, and is usually associated with groups opening up. You may or may not have seen any other pressure sign? None of them is entirely reliable, you just need to take heed of the one that show up first.

This whole thread is a goodf illustration of guns being individuals. If we had a big enough laboratory and enough time, we could probably track down the reasons for which powder works best in which gun? It will boil down to achieving a sweet spot in the barrel timing with an otherwise satisfactory load.
