I have that exact firearm, only I've done some modification to it over the years. The scope on it is junk and I'd recommend that you avoid teaching any child with a scope, unless they have bad eyes. The only downfall with the firearm as purchased was the rear sight is a pivoting/sliding affair that isn't very consistent. If I were starting a youngster out, I'd get a Williams Receiver sight and decent Marbles Ramp w/ fine bead, or something like this replacement set:
