Hi gents,
Has anyone used either Tightgroup or 800X for lighter plinking loads in .44mag? I normally use about 9gr of Unique w/a 250gr Keith. It's definitely a good load, although a bit dirty, but I would like to experiment more. I chrony'd a bunch of those Unique loads and my average was about 990fps from my 4" MG. If possible, I would like to tone that down even a bit more. Mayby 900 or less. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have used titegroup in 44mag cases. Trying to get a reduced mag load. I looked in my notes and see 7.0 grs of titegroup gave me 950fps ave. notes said "didn`t group well" ? I`ve used it in 44spl cases with better results. I used unique also 9.0grs gave me aprox 1025fps out of my 5 1/2" blackhawk. Now trying bluedot; I`ve tried 12.0grs; got 974-1076fps spread out a little on the speed. went back up to 13.0grs for 1100. I`m looking for a good reduced load powder for mag cases also. good luck. jpsw44

Mine are lighter. 5.3 gr of Bullseye with a KSWC-350. They shoot well out to about 75 yards.

I've been using 6.5 grains of Hodgdon's Universal behind a 240 grain LSWC. It shoots well, about like a cowboy load in a 45 Colt, but does seem a bit dirty. Not sure of the velocity.

Titegroup is very good.
7.5gr. of AA#2 with a 240gr. SWC is good for about 1,000fps or so in the .44 mag, nice practice load.

I used 6.0 grains of Titegroup as a light Special load, groups okay out to 50 yards, then drops like Martha Stewart stock! :D

I shoot quite a bit of 800X. Many folks don't use it since the large flake powder doesn't meter well through powder measures, however it works very well with dipped charges.
I like this load for your uses.
BTB 44-250K/9.6g 800X/WLPP/Rem or Starline Brass.
It shoots well, burns relatively clean, and delivers excellent ballistic uniformity. Fun, versatile load approximating factory .44 spcl. loading levels.

I shoot 7 gr unique with a 245 LSWC 429421, for cowboy. You should be able to go down to about 6.5 and still get a decent burn with a 250. If they smoke the cases badly, use a Lee factory crimp die.
