Any suggestions for a consistent rimfire in 22 LR for this pistol? The gun is almost the same as the Mark II Target Pistol by Ruger.
Thanks for the help.

Had one myself that did just fine with X-22 Winchester bulk-pack. CCI-std. was only only a hair's breadth tighter, on average, so I didn't see the point in the extra expense.
Speaking of CCI, I've read the rumor that BLAZER is the SAME ammo as STANDARD, but just doesn't meet visual inpsection standards(or some such). So, it's brick-packed and sold at cheaper prices. Every .22 that passes through my hands gets tested with some Blazer.

TexasKingFisher,
Go to: www.rimfirenews.com and rummage around there for a couple of charts on 22LR performance. Pick a few brands that have low Extreme Spreads, buy 'em and try 'em. Each gun has its own favorite ammo, and trial and error with your pistol is the only sure way to find out what it likes!

Test the ammo that's available in your location...if you are in a larger area with lots of choices, this can be a lot of different choices....if in a gun-shop-poor area, may be only a few.
Becasue the idea is to buy a good supply of whatever shoots well, save yourself some fustration and don't test the types that have one or two lonely boxes on the shelf....if it shoots great, you'll not be able to buy more.
That's happened more than once...find the perfect load, be happy, and that load evaporates (or the way it's manufactured, or the specific lot number, is never really duplicated again).
Can get lucky and have cheaper types shoot exceptionally well, so don't let price alone be your guide. Also don't be too fustrated if the results from your pistol don't match the posted results you'll find at various web sites...ammo cahnges, and each gun has a definate "personality".
Each firearm and chamber is different, no matter how many clones the manufacturer ran off that day in that chambering.
As said, try a variety and see which strikes your Ruger's fancy.
I've got a Kimber .22 LR rifle that is like an expensive woman - likes only the best, but it's worth it! Conversely, have a 10/22 Ruger bull bbl target rifle that relishes the cheap PMC Target ammo, even though it could share the Lupua and Eley of the Kimber if it wanted to.

What's your definition of consistent? Since I'm a relative newbie and don't compete, I consider consistent to be decent groups and most important, no jams. With my Mark II I have had good results with CCI Minimags and Winchester Dyanpoints. I tried CCI Blazers at one of the local ranges, but got too many jams. The owner of the range was surprised and said nobody else had complained about them.
The nice thing about the Dynapoints is they are less than $10 for a box of 500 at Walmart. Works fine for my backyard log hunting. Like others have said, each gun is different. What works for mine may not work for yours. Best bet is to stick with smaller quantities till you find what your gun likes.
One more source of info is the Ruger MarkII & 22/45 site: http://www.markii.org

I went and bought a box of Federal 550 at Wal-Mart. JHP load that only jammed one time out of 100 rounds in the new gun. By the way, Ruger told me to give them a try.

I shoot CCI Mini-mags 22LR. I have been reading that Winchester Dyanpoints work just as well, and for $10 for 500, that is cheap. I also have a 22/45.......
