Thought you would like to see some results of the first day of hunting from the Double C at Crystal City, TX. I spent the evening looking for an Auodad sheep... saw one but no shot. Meanwhile VTDW and Jack were a couple miles away kicking butt on the feral hogs. This is the first evenings game, VTDW shot 6 with his 444S and Jack shot 2 with his 450M...

Picture of Jack caught during a nap, watch that scope eye relief when you get excited!

More as the hunt progresses...

Great to hear from you! Looks like you're all having a grand time. Hope to get more reports back as your hunt progresses.

Thanks for the updates!

God Bless,

Atta Boy - Ranch Dog, et al!

Thinning down the numbers of vermin and collecting some good eating doing it.

Jack looks disturbingly like someone always peering back at me in the morning mirror!

You guys have a ball down there - I'll be joining tpv in a couple of weeks for some of the same.

Not much activity this morning. Dave slept in, Jeff saw a bunch of deer, and I saw a large bobcat. Afternoon prowl of his trapline produced two bobcats and a coon for our guide, Nick.

The hunt is history and the score still stands at 8 hogs. On the last night of the hunt I saw 17 feral hogs feed past my tripod but they were pretty small and decided I would leave them for a future hunt as my freezer is already at it's holding capacity.

The facilities and staff at the Double C (www.huntingwithjeff.com) were outstanding and the three of us really had a great time and gained a few pounds in the process.

As with meeting gmark340 early in the year, it was great to meet VTDW and Jackin person. I know that we have started a friendship that will see many hunts over the coming years!

I see I remain unphotoed... so here is a picture of me flying home!

Nice hunt Ranch Dog. For fella's traveling farther, will Jeff add extra days to the trip, for a fee?

Oh - That's just great, Ranch Dog! With shades on, the boom mike stuck in your face and the light background, we can really see who you are!

Might have better luck next time if you put on a paper bag with two eyeholes in it............:D

Kdub...

As the taker of pictures I always seem to be left out of the pictures... thats a good thing! Here is a picture of the huge buck I shot this year with the 444P!

I enhanced the photo of the owner and guide (standing) with Dave and Jack (sitting).

These folks where very impressed with the killing power demonstrated by these leveraction rifles. Some of those hogs where shot in the distance and all where one shot kills. The shooting at the shooting range, a requirement before you hit the pasture, impressed our guide. The Manager was able to add two cartridges to his collection of those that have hunted the ranch: Jack's 450 Marlin and the .35 Rem. from my Marlin 336D.

Thanks for pic, Ranch Dog -

Looks like that powerful slug hit with such authority, it knocked most of the rack off! ;)

Since you're still holding it with your shooting hand, have to assume the shoulder is still there, also.

SureShot, I am old enough to be scaley!! :D

The hog hunt at http://www.huntingwithjeff.com/ was a huge success from my point of view. I was lucky enough to shoot 6 hogs the first evening's hunt with only 5 shots from my 444S. Jack shot 2 and missed one with his 450 and RanchDog hunted Aoudad.

A great time was had by all and I sincerely believe we will have future hunts together. RanchDog is just like you think he is from his writings on these forums. A great outdoorsman and fine man's man.

Will post pics when I learn how and will do a detailed write up at that time. I will say this, our guide, Nick was surprised at our leverguns,m their accuracy and the way we handled and shot them when he checked us out at the range before the hunt. When he came to pick me up after the first evening's hunt and saw the dead hogs all over the place, all with neck shots but one that I shot between the eyes he was estatic. He said "Wow those are real pig guns!"

Dave :)

VTDW,

I couldn't believe all the hogs stacked up in the back of that truck!

Don't know if you are following the weather in Texas VTDW, but Crystal City got hammered yesterday and the day before. I suspect that one place we hunted on the river is about 20' under!

Ranch Dog,

Yes I am. I saw on the news that Crystal City got 6" of hail. I suppose we could hunt hogs from a flat bottom boat if we were there. :D
