Does anybody have any experience with H380 powder in these cartriges. I know it's a slow burner and a couple of my manuals recommend using a magnum primer. I'm currently using IMR 4064. I use 39 gr. with a 50gr. nosler ballistic tip in the 220 and 49 gr. with a 168 gr. Speer BT HP in the 30-06.I get good results with the 220 and average results with the 30-06. Anyone have any suggestions.

I haven't used H380 in the calibers you mention, but I have used it in 6mm Rem with varmint weight bullets. It is just a bit slower than 4064, but otherwise performed similarly in the 6mm.

Speer shows a magnum primer with just about all spherical powders. I used regular primers with perfectly good results. Perhaps in really cold weather the primers would make a difference.

I have used H414 in the 30-06. It has a burning rate close to 4350, and may give better results in your 30-06 - it worked well in mine.

I don't use too many spherical powders anymore because the Hodgdon extreme powders burn cleaner, are temperature insensitive, and meter fairly well. Good luck finding something that suits you!

I use H380 in my 270 with 90 grain bullets with great results. I also plan to buy a 220 Swift in the near future and will certainly use the H380. As for primers, I have used nothing but CCI 200 Large Rifle and there's been no problems. I plan to try some magnum primers soon just to see if there's a difference.

Only cartridge I ever really used with this powder is the .243 Win.

It has been a number of years ago, but I used H380 with Sierra 55 gr HV's in my 220 Swift and they shot extremely well. The only down side was after shooting 20 rounds or so the accuracy went to ****. I discovered that on a prarie dog hunt, was really hammering them and suddenly I couldn't hit anything past 300yds. After scrubbing the heck out of the barrel everything was back to normal...seemed I spent as much time cleaning as I did shooting. After that I went back to IMR 4064 as it never gave a problem.

If you've gotten tired of trickling 4064, try Varget.

I like H380 in my .243, but have used IMR4350 under a Sierra 165BTSP,(Gameking), for years. Last fall I switched to H4350, as it meters much better through my Uniflo.

Juast got back from NRA event, didn't realize that Hogdon bought out IMR powder line. Gonna have to get a new manual, and start getting out more.
