Has any one experiance with the 1873 Winchester carbine built by Uberti?
We are thinking of buying one for cowboy shooting .
Does the toggle set up hold up ?Is there any care other than normal cleaning that this rifle needs?

I handled a used rifle today in 357 calipier.Over all I liked the rifle but thought the sites to be a bit crude on the carbine .
After loading the tube with 38Spl. ( not thinking ) found that , unlike so many other 357 rifles I could not load anything but 357 mag. Single firing the rifle at 20yrs with the factory sites and 38 spl. rounds I could shoot a clover leaf.
Having 4000 pieces of 38Spl. brass ,and four firearms in 357 that would shoot 38 Spl would mean having to change up to 357 Mag for fear of mixing rounds at a cowboy shoot.
Then requiring at least 1500 rds of 357 brass was going to be a bit hard on the purse.
Well if I was just starting out , I would have bought the rifle.

I have a Navy Arms Model '73, which is made by Uberti. It is indeed, a very fine rifle. I haven't gotten into CAS (yet!), so I can't say for sure that it will hold up in the long run, but there really isn't any reason for me to think it wouldn't.
As far as care is concerned, there isn't anything special that I do to it. I just clean it and oil it like any other lever gun.

Shot the rifle today at the range . It did not stand up to rapid fire and jammed up. Returned it to the smith .
Apparenty they do not hold up well as the Marlin I am told. Informed this is what I need to buy( Marlin 94)

Harry, regarding your 1873 Uberti, I can refer you to someone that has lots of experience with using, working on, race tuning of the 1873 Uberti. He is an avid and active Cowboy Shooter and I also have one of his Uberti 1873 race tuned rifles. If you want to contact me at my email address I will put you in touch with him via email. My email address is DRJR1badspringer@msn.com. He has done race tuning of Cowboy shooters rifles for many of the Cowboy shooters and some of the fastest.

Well my wife has a trapper in 357 that she can empty as fast as you can spell my name. The Uberti would have been going to her as her time could have become better .
I inquired on the forums but got no response and now the rifle that we were looking at is long gone.
So would you advise shooting the gun until somthing broke, or would you say install wolf springs slick up the action and give it all?
You can only go on what you hear knowing nothing until well informed by those in experiance.
