I need a starting point for a load for 243 Win. T C Encore Rifle (24 inch) using 85 gr. Barnes TRIPPLE-SHOCK X bullets. I will be deer hunting with them in WV next fall. I'd like to use Varget if I can? Thanks Jeff
Barnes bullets has an information slip that comes in the Triple Shock bullet boxes that give advice on loadings.
They recommend starting at the max level for the standard Barnes XBT and Solid bullets and working up for the Triple Shock bullets, due to reduced friction of the Triple Shocks.
I can find no listings in the Number 2 Barnes reloading manual using Varget for the 85 gr 6mm bullet. The closest powder info is for the IMR 4895, a slightly faster burn rate powder than the Hodgdon Varget. It lists 36.5 gr of the IMR4895 as maximum. AA2700 a slightly slower powder, has a max load of 41.0 gr with the 85 grainer.
Hope this may be of use for you.
