Ill be using 150gr Remington round nose bullets with winchester cases and CCI Large Rifle primers...i currently have tons of Unique and Varget and was wondering if anyone can recommend a good target load for me.

Hodgdon manual has 31.0 gr of Varget for a starting load for the 150 gr bullet, 34.5 gr as max.

See some loadings for Unique in the Lyman manual, but they're for cast lead bullets only.

Any reason they cant be used with a jacketed bullet??

Usually won't get the same results...and with an upper limit lead load that can get you into trouble...but for "plinking" loads it should work out. Stay away from the cast bullet data under 1200fps and away from the data towards the upper limits, and if bullet weight is about equal, will get in-the-ballpark results.

Have used 9gr. of Unique with nearly anything near 150gr. and .308" diameter as a base load with no ill effects...my rifles, my risk. Velcoity will be in the 1400-1475fps area (depending on bullet and barel length)...cases last nearly forever, which is usually a sign of a moderate pressure load.

someone had a link to a site that had loads with unique and other pistol powders. Had a fair amount of data and background info. Seems like it turned up in one of the threads about light loads.

Jeffro...

I've used Unique in all my Marlins, .30-30, .35 Rem., and 444. I'm out traveling so I don't have access to my data... but I believe I used 5.0-grains with the 150-grain Hornady RN... even chronographed it like I do every load.

I used the CCI LR primers, WW brass, Lee Factory Crimp Die, and a polyfiber filler to keep the power in the base of the case. I cut rectangles of the fiber 1" X 1.5". It really fills up the case.

I got the data from an old Lyman Reloading Manual I have from the very early sixties. It has plinker loads for jacketed bullets and pet loads. I will check it out when I return.

You shouldn't use real light loads for jacketed bullets because sometimes the core will separate and the jacket will stay in the bore and cause no end of trouble. I used to load cast bullets with unique for a friend's 3030. Accurate enough for squirrel hunting.
