View Full Version : supreme brass
Do you'll know if there is any difference between regular brass and the silver finish that Winchester puts on their Supreme ammo. Is it any thicker, harder, easier to work?
Thx,Tom

I beleive that brass is just run of the mill nickel-plated brass. Generally doesnt last as long when reloading.
Sure does look pretty though, doesn't it?!
Seems the nickle stuff gets about as many reloads in my press as the plain brass ones do - both rifle and handgun. The nickle is subject to scratch up your dies if it's nicked or burred. Never had that happen with mine, as they are always wiped down and visually inspected prior to sizing - nickle AND brass.

Thanks for the info

I used quite a bit of nickle plated brass until I read an article that indicated that flakes of nickle (which are harder than barrel steel) get strewn down the bore everytime a shot is fired, likely contributing to significant bore erosion. I also have found that it is more likely to develop split necks.
Use it if you want, but I won't touch the stuff anymore.
