It must be because I just bought a fairly new used one without the front sight hood. :D

Yup It is. I took mine off of my rifle. Just slide the thing off of there.

Sites really suck on the henry. Wish they'd peep sight it

Well, at least it's a notch and post. Sort of like on the handguns my eye is used to. Most .22s seem to cut the notch in a 'V' or 'U', then put a rounded top post with round bead on the front sight. I can't STAND that set-up.

I like a U rear site and a slim metal front blade if i'm shootin iron sites
