I have an 1896 model swedish mauser, manufactured in 1941 (husqvarna) with the 24 inch barrel. I have seen Williams and some of the other sight manufacturers advertse a replacement peep that fits into the stock rear sight fixture. does anybody out there have any experience with these? Do they work? Are they worth the effort and cost? I can't shoot the original military sights very well- at 100 yards I get some serious vertical stringing, no thanks to the original sights, and my aging eyes.

I have used them and they do work better. Takes some getting used to through. Here are two links for you to look at:

The sights do not require drilling and tapping. If you don't like them, the orginal sights can be put back on.

Density1- did you try the mojo version or the one from gunstuff? I think Williams also has something similar as well.

Jimbo, I have used the mojo and Williams 5D peep sights on my guns. Both work well.
Let me say that I have noticed, that since mojo came out with their sights, there have been copies from Williams and others. I have not used them all, but I see a repeat of a pattern. I "think" that if you know for sure what your mauser model is, that you can get better set of sights for your gun for a good price now. Just do a little research. Williams seems to be coming out with a whole new line of sights for mil-surplus guns now.
