I sure could use some help finding a cleaning rod guide for my no1 in 45-70.
Sinclair does not make one for this caliber and no one else does that I can find.
I know with all the single shot black powder shooting going on now that some one must make a rod guide of some kind for cleaning these big single shots.
I know the reason that sinclair does not make one is that with the regular oring design and delrin material gets too thin in the 45-70 caliber.
But there must be a better way to clean them without getting solvent all down around the falling block mechanism and hammer.
Let me know what some of you have found to work or where to buy:

Thank you for your time: Joey S aka 308

Here's a suggestion:

Drill out the primer pocket on a case so the cleaning rod will go through. Deburr the hole as best you can.

Find a thin O-ring that will go in the extractor groove.

Not elegant, perhaps - but cheap.

I tryed this with less than stellar results, I don't have the equipment to drill through a case, I'd rather buy a cleaning rod guide ready made.
Thank you for your answer though: JS

Don't use so much cleaning fluid on your patch so that the excess runs down through the action. On my first patches I just dampen them to remove the loose stuff. Then, after the first pass or two, run the rod down the barrel sans patch, put on the clean patch, soak it if you want, then pull it through. The excess will be squeezed off at the muzzle and into the conviently placed trash can (I hope). If you prefer to us a jag that can only be used on the push stroke, just don't soak the patch so much. All that excess is not doing any good anyway so just dampen the patch, not soak it.

In line with Big Bore's suggestion, you can turn the #1 upside down in a vice or gun cleaning rack and clean just as efficiently without the excess cleaner running down into the action.

Used to continually wipe excess cleaner off the bottom of the block of my #1's until hit between the eyes one day with this solution. Works like a charm.

I use a boresnake on my 7mm Ruger 1 to clean it up. I just dampen the the first few inches of the boresnake and run it through a few times a it is clean and no dripping mess. Try one for a 410 shotgun that should work for that 45 caliber bore.

If you can't find anything else, mail me a couple of fired cases and I'll bore them out in the lathe. Postage won't be much. PM me if you want to try this route.....

Or just keep the muzzle pointed down :)
