I have been reading the posts here, but this is my first time up with a question and hope one of you knowledgeable folks will have the answer. I recently accquired one of the the old Redding powder measures with the large dial on the side that looks like a combination lock. It is in very good condition and extremely smooth ( and very heavy). It's easy to figure out how to use, but I'm not sure how to take it apart for a cleaning. I will contact Redding, but there on no markings on the measure other than the Redding name.
Does anyone know what the model number is, or if there are instructions available on the net somewhere? Any tips on the dissasembly? My over 50 eyes like the large dial, I can set it without the reading glassses, so I'd like to set it up on the bench.

E.D. Hill, got your message. On the front there is a silver plate and it has a knurled nob on it. Remove this it is the lock for the safe dial. Next on the back there is another, (THIS RETAINS A SPRING AND BALL FOR THE STOP ON THE POWDER THROW AND GOES INTO A POCKET IN THE HANDLE SIDE THERE IS PRESSURE ON THIS SO YOU HAVE TO BACK IT OFF A QUITE A WAYS OR COMPLETELY OUT, BEWARE, BE CARFUL, AND DON'T LOSE THE BALL BEARING IT IS AN ODD SIZE) Now remove the safe dial, and then the other side with the handle and it is ready to be cleaned. If you need more info or get stuck, give me a private e-mail with your phone number and I will give you the number of the current owner of one. He is the one who gave me the info. He lost the ball bearing in his and says it works fine without it, but would rather have it in there. So when you get yours apart, it you could mike the bearing and post the size, maybe I can get him a new one somehow. Take care and have fun. Swany

Swany, thank you! I wrote Redding and they asked for my address and said "they'd look around for instructions to copy".Haven't heard anything but I hope it will show up. I won't get into it until this weekend, but I'll be happy to mic the ball and post the size for you.
Thanks again,
Kurt

Swany, I opened it up, the detent ball is in the rotor and doesn't come out. There are two small dents on either side of the ball looks like they used a punch to peen the metal enough so the ball won't drop out of the tube. I tried to set the micrometer next to it and it looks like .010 - .012 but thats just a rough guess.
