I need help! I took the Marlin 1895m out to the range today. I shot preaty good but made a big mistake. I took the lever off and the bolt out to clean the gun. After I cleaned it out I put the extracter back in and by mistake pushed the bolt all the way in with out putting in the lever. Now I can't get the bolt out. I pushed a few patches through the barrel and then put some preasure on the cleaning rod in an attempt to push it out but it seems locked in. I can't bring my self to take it to the gun smith for fear My picture will be posted on the wall for the dumbest customer. at least on the board i could always change my user ID....lol

please help!

Well did that myself too awhile back . :o I think I got the lever in the bottom slot and wiggled the bolt back enough to get the lever in place. I am not sure what locks it all up.

One thing is that the hammer may be exerting a little pressure at the rear of the bolt, even with it cocked. Also, if the bolt is not budging at all, the locking lug may have moved up into it's recess in the bottom of the bolt - quite likely if you turned the rifle upside down. Sit the rifle upright in a vice or on sandbags, push the bolt fully forward, and rap on the rifle sharply with your hand or a soft mallet. That should get the locking lug to drop back down. Then, hold back the hammer as you push the bolt back. I can move mine back by hand (it's a 336, 28 years old) but use a rod if necessary. Let us know how it turns out!

Just read Harry's post - you can probably use the lever to wiggle it back, as he suggested, instead of using the rod. But either way, you will need to get the lug disengaged first.

Great stuff. In my situation I am sure the lug droped while I was fiddling with it over a few choice words. Not that I am known to swear.
Now instead of had unfairly labeling your self , go to the tips section of this forum and note what happened and how to get out of this situation. I am sure ther might be a rifle somewhere put away because some one did not want to ask a smith to fix it.

Take a look at this picture and you'll see why you can't get the lever in when the lug is up. A couple of taps should drop it, since the lug is tapered.

Set the rifle sights up and cock the hammer to full cock, put a wooden dowel into the bore and take a paper clip and pull the locking bolt down from under the action and push on the bolt face with the dowel ! JAGG

This is one of the few mistakes I haven't made...BUT it's great to have Web-friends who are willing to help out. Sort of like the frontier days when neighbors pitched into help each other.

As a teenager and young adult I took guns and a shoebox of parts to the local gunsmith numerous times. If I live long enough it will probably happen again.

Thanks to "neighbors" everywhere. :-)

If the gun is upside down, gravity will seat the locking lug. Sounds like you figured it out.
