I have seen Contender .204Ruger barrels for sale. Does anyone know anything about the .204 Ruger?

Boy, Gregarat - !

You must have pulled a Rip Van Winkle the past year - that's one of the newest cartridges that is all the rave for gunwriters to burn graphite over.

The .204 Ruger is a .222 Rem Mag case (obsolete for some years now), necked down to .20 caliber (NOT .22) and loaded with a lightweight 30 grain bullet provided by Hornady. Out of their test barrel, it generates 4250 fps and is a pretty flat shooter.

Quite a few mfg'rs are now chambering for this cartridge, including T/C in the 14" Contender barrel. When they come out with the 23" carbine bbl, I'll give thought to getting one, although my old .223 Rem in the Ruger M77mkII V/T is still doing a fine job in it's own right.

I am going to have VVCG make me a TC Contender carbine barrel in .204 as soon as I get the ok from the boss. You can get a factory 21" barrel from MSSS.

Trust me kdub, Im awake, was just napping till I had the money, and the carbine barrel is avalible;).

I should have been more spasific. Whats the wind drift like? I hear it isnt bad but that is abit vauge. Does it cut through the wind better than a .22-250?
All I hear about is how this cartrage shoots flat, and fast.

The October issue of GUNS magazine has an article on the new .204 Ruger. It may answer your questions. It's very positive regarding the cartiridge.

Have you ever seen a gun magazine that DIDN'T like a new cartridge?!
