I'm expecting a new shipment of BTB 250gr LFNGC soon and want to try some AA1680 powder. Does anyone have a reasonable starting point for this powder? For those who have tried it, what is the top velocity you've obtained?
And finally, does anyone know of a supplier for AA1680 in the Colorado Springs area? I called Specialty Sports and they said that all of their AA powders have been backordered. The guy said that Hodgdon had bought out AA and they were still trying to figure out what to do with the AA line. The AA website no longer has a dealer locator feature. I've tried to find this powder in the past several times without success.
Thanks for any help.
I've used 1680 with 200 and 220 grain jacketed bullets; haven't tried it with 250 cast. The Accurate Arms data worked well in my rifle, so I'd suggest you use their data if they have any on the bullet you want to use.
BTW, 1680 works better than any other powder for me in the 375 Win. My secnd choice would be Reloder 7.

I think you will find that AA1680 is best suited for 200 and 220 grain jacketed bullets. But, the Loadbook shows a starting load of 25.2 grains of 1680 for a 250 FNGC working up to a max of 28.0.

Howdy Bart-
As for a source for AA-1680 in the Springs, try Sportsman's Warehouse. They carry the Accurate line of powders and have a good reloading components selection in general.
I've tried this powder with 300 gr. Cast-GC bullets in my Win-94 BB. A charge of 29.0 grs. gave me 1800fps range with pressure ring expansion of +.0005" vs. factory jacketed loads. The Accurate manual suggests that this powder delivers more velocity at a lower pressure than any other powder I've seen data for. It's also a nice powder to use in the .375 because it's a -very- fine ball powder. Nice since the .375 is powder capacity challenged when using many of the other selections oft recommended.
Best regards-

Hi Sky,
I don't see a Colorado Springs store listed on their website. Do you have an address/phone number? Push comes to shove I could make a trip to The City. Looks like they have a store in Aurora which might be the closest to me. I'm getting close to the point of just ordering an 8lb keg from Graf's and being done with it! Can't believe how hard it is to find this stuff around here.
I've been using Re7 with this bullet with good performance. If nothing else I'll settle for 2100 fps with hunting accuracy. Considering the terrain I'll be hunting this fall I was looking to get a little flatter trajectory though. Was hoping to get Marshall to chime in here since I know he's had best results with 1680. But maybe he's quit giving out load data. I wouldn't blame him.
Thanks for the info. Did you draw anything for this year's season(s)?
