Hello Pards:

This may be slightly off topic but I need some input from you fellows.

I was just in a pawn shop and this gun caught my eye. M1899 Savage takedown in 25-35 Win with 26 inch round barrel. Unfortunately, it has been drilled and tap and has a old Weaver K4. The serial # is 73,4##. It appears to be in excellent shape.

The blue book says guns under 90,000 should not be shot for possible cracks in the bolt. Is this a big problem? I want as a shooter for cast bullets. One hidden advantage I can think of is that 99 will allow pointed bullet designs.

The shop owner wants $800, is this reasonable??

Let me hear what yer think??

I have no knowledge about the bolts cracking on 99's. I do think $800.00 is to much to pay for a non-original gun (scope mount). I picked up a 99 take down in 250 Savage a while ago for much less because the stock had been refinished. Good shooter though.
