Good morning from Alaska:

I have a peep sight from an 1895 winchester and would like to know what it is worth. The rifle was built in 1902 according to the serial numbers. It is a lyman original.

Can anyone tell me its value?

Thanks 375RR

It's surprising how much these old, original peep/receiver sights are worth.
I'd recommend that you do a search for similar ones on eBay and look at the "completed auctions" results.
You can also check auctionarms and gunbroker.com occasionally.I don't think you can review completed auctions on those sites, though.
You'll probably find that ones in excellent condition go for over a $100.
I have my Dad's 95 - a takedown in .35 WCF. The original stocks sure do amplify the recoil.

Is it tang mounted or is it mounted to the side of the receiver?

If it's mounted on the side of the receiver, those sights for the 95's fetch upwards of $300 dollars in usable condition.

Buffalo Arms in Sandpoint, ID makes a reproduction of these sights, and the price starts at about $225

Don't sell off your original too quickly.... they are extremely hard to find!

I brought this up for that same exact reason. I just bought an original one for my 1894 last week and it set me back $340. I'm still searching for a front screw if you know of any gunsmiths in your area that might have one. :(

I don't know what it's worth but you may have a Lyman Model 21. I have one on my 95 and it's commonly called a ladder sight also. My 95 (30-40) was made in 1926 and was my father's.
