quick question for anyone that might have an answer...

i am looking to put a new recoil pad on my .444 Timber Carbine... i have found a Pachmayr Decelerator that is listed to fit a "94 Win Wood Stock"... i have also looked at the Sims Limbsaver website that lists the model 70 pad as fitting a 94 w/ a wood stock. I printed the template, and it seems a bit oversize for the Timber Carbine. since the prefit Limbsaver pad isn't grindable, i don't really want an overhang.

so... a two-fold question...

- has anyone mounted either of these pads successfully to a .444 Timber Carbine?
- which would you recommend?

thanks

I have the Pachmayer prefit on my '94 BigBore .356. Fit is....okay. It can never be a perfect fit without being fitted to your actual stock. It'll never happen. It is really effective at handling recoil though.

I like the Decelerator. They aren't the toughest recoil pad in the world, though, and will wear faster than other brands. Still, one's held up pretty well for close to a decade on my .30-60, and also on a pump shotgun for about that long.

Have a Kick-eze on a .338 Win Mag. Does a pretty good job, too.

Ranch Dog has the Limb-Saver on a few guns. I haven't shot any of them, but those seem to be fairly soft and squishy, as recoil pads go, and should be comparable to the Decelerator.

Agree with Bob, you'll never get a perfect drop-in fit - just as well plan on either fitting it yourself, or paying someone to do so.

The LimbSaver has three grind to fit pads (S, M, and Large) and then the pads you are looking at. Like MikeG noted, I had my gunsmith install a grid to fit pad on my Marlin kickers.

Ledz,
I have a Limbsaver it arrived a couple of days ago.
It is for .444 Marlin, pre-fit.
Well it just ain't so, the bottom hole is at least a 1/4 '' longer than original hole.
I agree with the others about fit it just ain't there.
Looks like a trip to the Smitty.

Take off the pad you have and take it to a place that sells the pads and compare pad to pad to find the one that fits. Thats what I did for my 1895G. I have the SVL pad and just love it.
