I just picked up a Marlin 1894C 357 Mag. Lever Action Rifle. What is the quickest way to break the Barrell in?

Thanks,

Geoff

Go up to the "Rifles and Rifle Cartridges", above, and find the thread on barrel break-in. You'll find enough diverse opinions to throughly confuse yourself.

Shoot that thang until your shoulder gets sore. Give it a couple of days and go shooting again. :D

I'd shoot at least 100 or so copper jacketed bullets through it to "smooth out the rough spots". Clean it out a few times in the process. That's just my pet procedure. I have always thought my Big Bore 94 has a smooth barrel because of first shooting jacketed. It shoots cast with very little leading....even at high speed. I think the shoot one round, clean the barrel routine is a bit much for barrel break in....for all practical purposes. Some guys have a lot of time on their hands....... Good luck and congratulations.

I'd clean it after each five shots for the first twenty or so, that should be enough to smooth it out. As Kdub said there are a lot of varying opinions about this, but unless you're dealing with a target gun, I'd not get too carried away. Enjoy the process, and enjoy that new blaster! Few things in life are as much fun as a .357 marlin!
