I just found this forum. I've seen some familiar names from the Marlin Talk days. I don't know if you guys remember me I was a regular reader and somewhat irregular (so slow on the keyboard) poster.

Hello to Bill Conrad and Sunday Creek. Two very civil and knowledgable men. Civil with an asterisk for Bill (Bill, I remember you made me laugh out loud several times with your retorts to AK Hunter). I'm sure there are more of you that came over and I look forward to kicking things around with you.

If there are others out there please just say hello on this thread.

Welcome aboard. there are a fair number of the old MT crew who stop by. Others have congregated at some other sites (Greybeards perhaps?)

Things are kinda quiet here compared to the old MT but the information is here and will most likely be here for quite some time.

My best,

Scotty

Hey Paul Barnard,

A few of the old bunch go to Graybeards. Not many there as they don't like the moderating thing. I moderate the Outdoors Experiences forum which doesn't need much moderating. Quite a few of the old bunch are at Marlinowners.com as it is getting better every day with the exchange of ideas and info. Some got out of line a while back and Larry closed down some of the favorite forums. That settled things down quite a bit.

This is probably the best and most informative/technical site for us Marlin folks to gain and impart knowledge. The knowledge base here is just outstanding.

Paul,

Marshall runs this Forum ... you'll see him pop in from time-to-time.
While Moderators (like Scotty) help keep these chats informative (and civil).
And, yes, some posts will still make you laugh-out-loud. But, not due to the likes of certain Alaskan "Hunters" who smash GhostRings with bricks.
Technical knowledge (Jackfish, etc.) is quite high and, experience is present ... in depth ... in all forum areas. As an example, I jumped on a thread over in Handguns (.44 mag) and got some great advise on Double-Action .44 Mags.

Yeah, I remember Jackfish too. He wouldn't cut any corners in giving a complete answer. Pictures, graphs, you name it he went through great pains to enlighten. Glad he's here.

Good to see you Paul. I will be hosting the Postal Matches here, had a good one this year and will make it better next year!

I went by Jack O'Conner on the Marlin Forum. Much has changed since last Spring. Sold my business and moved to eastern Pennsylvania in June to accept a great job offer. Looking to buy a place near Mohnton. Beautiful Berks County has many public land hunting opportunities. Been working too many hours but will take 3 days off to hunt trophy Fallow deer in Florida in December.

Missed hunting 'lopes in western S. Dakota this month. First time I've missed this activity in decades. So it goes.

Good to have you show up, Paul.
Scotty, you've thawed out!
Ranch dog, please accept my belated condolences for your loss. Internet problems have kept me from responding earlier.

Hi, Paul, and welcome.

(I've sold all my Marlins and I'm adrift now, but looking at a Rossi or Henry in 44mag.)

Gasp! Blasphemy! Sold all your Marlins! Looking for a Rossi or Henry? No wonder you're 1X2. When you get another Marlin we'll let you be a 2X4!
Just kidding, this isn't Marlinownersforum!

Hello! :)

I finally got my WIN 1886 in 50-110 yesterday. Have not shot it yet but its real purty! I have not purchased a Marlin since their site closed. Hmmmmm... I still say that site was the best advertising they ever had.

Hey Vern, you certainly waited a long time for that 50-11, didn't you. When you shoot it aim east. The recoil should put you somewhere in our back pasture.

I'm usually quite regular ( LOL ) but don't post much. I got tired of the Trolls on MT. I came back to this forum so often that I took MT off my favorites before they dropped it. This is THE lever forum. GBO is available but again the trolls along with the Moderating sometimes make me give up. I think I'll stick with Marshall from now on for Lever stuff. I always have liked heavy for caliber bullets at moderate velocity. When I stray from that I always learn a lesson and come back. Good shootin' and readin'. 'Dito

Luis,
Yup, I finally surrendered; I want an accurate levergun that feeds correctly, right out of the box, just like other kinds of rifles you can buy, and that's all there is to it... no "kit guns" need apply.

Two years, 9 months and two weeks, near as I can figure. I'm still young enough to see the front sight, although I can't see rear sights anymore. Twas lucky that I ordered a ghost ring! I shot 50 rounds on Sunday. They were 300 grain Barnes jacketed at 1400 fps. I'm told that I should burnish the bore with copper before I start with the cast. So, I thought I'd try it, even though I'm not so sure about it. The light loads don't kick at all. I got a 24 inch barrel and a full-length mag was added (for free, I guess), so its fairly heavy and holds real still. It seems accurate with the 300's, even though its supposed to be best with heavy bullets. I was shooting at 50 yards off my pick-up's tailgate and easily got 2-inch groups, even with a large white-dot front sight. He sent me several rear and front sights, and a gold bead was included. I prefer such as a front sight and will likely go with that.
I bought it to hunt black bear and moose with. I'll be using black powder and probably a 515 grain (or so) RCBS bullet of soft lead. Bear season is over, but deer is a couple of weeks away. I wonder if it will kill a deer? :p
