This my first chrony, its the Xp pro model. Does anyone have any experience with this? The manual is somewhat limited in info. The factory rep said turn it on and use it. I have there scale and powder dispensor, and they work ok after your break in period. Sounds like I answered my own question. It is supposed to be able to down load to your pc, and has a cable to connect, but no software. Does this need to be called out to c/s at Pact?

Some general chrono information I have picked up is 1)Do everything you can to protect your skyscreens 2) Take a .22 and run a couple of rounds over to make sure you are getting good reads before you run your handloads over. 3) the easiest way to boil down your data that I have found is to make/bum a spreadsheet in Excel. I have one on my website at home.dejazzd.com (you will have to copy and paste it in your address window, there no www. in front of the home) Feel free to change any formulas to make it do what you want.

I just got the Pact scale and I am going to pick up the dispenser at Cabela's in a few weeks, can you give me any hints on the use and break in? How long does it take to throw 20-40grns of powder

Have the Pact PC2 model - it has worked fairly well for the past 6 - 7 years. Doesn't like real eary daylight. Usually takes a couple hours after daybreak to start recording. Can be sensitive to adjacent bench muzzle blasts - will record them. Have learned to monitor the LCD, clear and shoot between companion bench shooters.

Have the laser light HP accessory printer for the unit, but it's a pain to align properly and get the downloads from the control unit to the printer. When wanting a printed record on my shooting session, will take the Oehler 35P unit out and set it up. More rigging to get it set up than the Pact, but lots more dependable as far as reading go.

The scale "break in" is the user getting familiar with it. You can't be near a breeze or fans blowing on it. Some have trouble with over head fluorescent lighting too. I calibrate it every time I turn it on. It works fast, weigh cases, bullets etc. The dispensor (current model) is way faster than the early model (which can be updated). You may want to buy direct from Pact as they pay the freight, go to there web site.

Cabelas has the dispenser for 119 right now, I should be getting a coupon for $30 off of any purchase at the Hamburg store (1hr 15min from my house) plus I have a bunch of "cableas points" saved up, so it shouldn't cost me anything

I've been using the Pact Pro model since the second or third year they came out, no computer port in mine darn-it. It is a darned good unit and the printer sure comes in handy, even though if you use it a lot be sure to have extra batteries on hand, and the devil with the trees, they are renewable (I am referring to a mention in the owner's manual about wasting trees by using the printer too much). As others have said, don't shoot your sky-screens. If you do and only damage the housing, they are about $25 a pair, but if you damage the sensor, expect to be punished a bit more for your foolishness. A shotgun sabot caught mine and tore up the housing so I lucked out. There is no "break in" period for the chrono other than learning how to use it. Just set it up and start shooting. Do be aware that you need a tape measure (or fixed length of string) to set up your screens properly/consistently. If you set up your screens at 17 feet one time, 13 feet the next, and 15 feet the next don't ever expect to get consistent readings from one outing to the next and then want to blame the chronograph. I set mine up at 15 feet to the center of the screen mounting bracket. On occasions when using it during rainy weather I have tried setting it up closer, but closer than 7-10 feet often results in muzzle blast trips instead of bullet trips.

Thanks on the tips for the Pact. You might call them on a up grade for the pc input. The software will be on there web site in about 3 wks. I know on my dispensor that I bought direct that they were offering upgrades for the older models as they were slower.
