hi guy`s , i went to an auction yesterday , and just like always i had to bring one home with me. This time it was something i had never seen before. It was a Winchester model 67 , chambered in the 22 wrf. I`ve never heard of one. The little rifle is in good condition except that it is drilled. Ouch ! My winning bid was $170 . I was able to pick up 500 rounds of 1986 made ammo. I wish it wasn`t drilled but i really like those oddball calibers. Can anyone tell me a little about the 22 wrf , ballistics etc. Thanks

IF you want to pick up some more ammo, CCI and WW are making it again at reasonable price.
Think it the round was introduced along with the Winchester 1890 pump. Uses a 45gr. flat pointed lead bullet driven at about 1400fps. Compared to the .22LR ammo of the time, it's a step up in power. There were some other variaions in loading accrocing to some books, but I've never seen any of them (Except the .22 Remington Special, which is the same round, but Remingtonw asn't going to use the word Winchester on their guns).
Older books praise it's killing power without tearing up a lot of meat...think you'll find that it's a good reliable small game round. Even Elmer Keith ahd good things to say about the .22wrf.
It's loaded with the bullet inside the case, so the lube grooves of the cast bullets of that time were covered by the case. .22LR ammo uses a heeled bullet the same diameter as the case, so they were loaded with grease over the exposed part of the bullet. Today, .22LR's use a non-stick wax type lube, but back then the .22LR's tended to pick up dirt, lint, and everything else in a pocket...the .22wrf cured that problem and offered more power as well.

Hi there I have a winchester 1890 WRF pumpaction and a Remington Mod 12 22 Special pumpgun.
Both are in working order. The Remington is the most accurate as the Winchester spays around abit ,Im looking for another barrel for it.
you have to work the action hard or the WRF will not load properly and Im looking into that too,the Rem works fine though.
You can use the WRF round in a 22 Magnum if your shootin bunnies at closer rangers.
The CCI round has a 45grn hollow point and the Winchester round is a solid.
You have a great little rifle there, have fun with it
