I too have an Ithaca 49, but mine is the repeater version, with a tubular magazine under the barrel. They made a single shot and the repeater version. I got mine in about 1969, and had a friend who had the single shot version about the same time. I have no clue as to manufacturing dates on these guns. I doubt there is much collector interest. I have seen a few at gun shows, usually with a reasonable price.
They are not well built, the one I have was used into my teen years, the extractor broke and I have never been able to get a replacement part for it. The receiver is a potmetal/alloy with a steel barrel and magazine tube. My serial number is 1063xx, and is probably manufactured in 1968(?). the legend on the barrel says "made in USA" but I have my doubts. I have heard that they were designed and built by Erma in Germany, but don't know that for a fact.

Think the Mod. 49 was US made...and it had a pretty long run being made from about 1960 to about 1978 (give or take a year). Haven't a clue to the serial number range...but they were not all that expensive new and so far as I know, aren't a devil of a lot of collectors interrest in anything but NIB type examples.
Pretty much an up-dated and mass produced Martini type action. Do remember the later versions were prone to roll pin use...and on that action, that's a pretty unsightly roll pin.
Believe the Mod. 72 was made by Erma...but memory is fickle and I'd have to look that one up.
