Has anyone tried a 25-35 Ackley Improved? On 4D Products, they show a 25.6% increase in 117 grain bullet speed, 2230 ft/sec before and 2800 ft/sec after.
The other day I was at Gander Mountain in Little Rock and saw two new Winchester 25-35s. Has Winchester started making 25-35 again?

Yes Sir. Take a look at the thread in Handloading section.
I have a 25-35 Ackley improved in a single shot rifle witha 23" barrel. I am not done doing load develpment and have done no work with 117 gr bullets, but I think it will be hard to get 2800 out of them. My gun has a relatively weak spring loaded extractor and so far I can only get about 2850 out of a 100gr and 3000 out of 85 gr without encountering extraction issues, although primers still look good. I think 2600-2700 is more realistic to keep things in the pressure range I am comfortable with. I don't know where 4D got their data, but if it is the old Ackley data it is REALLY hot. I can't get within 2 grs of some of his data without having to use a cleaning rod from the muzzle to knock out stuck cases. Even so, a 100gr bullet going 2850 or a 117 going 2650 is not too shabby. I enjoy the cartridge and get real close to 250 Savage performance. I will be posting more loading data on the other 25-35 post Dr A. refers to as soon as I have more completed - I'll have to get some 117's to try. I also haven't tried every powder under the sun with the 85's or 100's so maybe more speed can be had, but you have to remember that the 25-35 AI has less capacity than a 250 Savage and I don't think you'll find too many loads for a 117 at 2800 with the Savage either. My advice is get one and try it!
