View Full Version : What diameter bullet for 45-70
I have a Marlin 1895ss ordered for my Christmas present from my kids(great kids:-)). After much deliberation I have decided to use Beartooth 325gr FNGC. My question is what diameter? They have several. In reading the FAQ section the recommended is .4595 for the 1895 in 45-70. Should I order the .459, as .4595 is not listed in the bullet selection for the 325? Help would be appreciated.

You can either wait and slug your barrel to determine what diameter bullet you need or just order the .459" sizing and roll on. *

acy,
Sooner or later,You will have to actually Try both bullet diameters. Buy those .459 bullets and you can size them down to .458 without any damage to them,at all.
I have an H&R replica Springfield rifle that prefers the .458 bullet. My origional Springfield Carbine shoots one as well as the other.
Good luck
