I use LEE dies to:
1. neck size only
2. expand
3. seat
4. factory crimp

I have tried leaving out the sizing stage - [1.]
- bullet is seating firmly
- there is still consistent overall length
- factory crimp also sizes case
- rounds chamber well
- there has been no bullet movement under recoil
- accuracy is not changed

I tried this after seeing it suggested for 38.55 reloading
Is this a standard/reasonable practice or have I missed something?

May not be standard practice, but don't see any reason to change what you are doing.

May find after a few reloadings that th brass doesn't enter as easily as it did after one firing, and then that happens may have to full size them to get back to the start, but for all the loadings between, seems like a workable solution.
