Some of you may remember me hemming and hawing about buying a rifle, and wondering about it's origin. That's the rifle, and it cleared the police check so I'm cool with it. Now I was wondering what it's worth?

I've researched the Mod 71 a bit and it's NOT a long tang, and I refinished the stock because someone was getting on in years and decided to put a decelerator pad on it and muffed it up pretty bad. I'd say all in all I took maybe 1/16 to 1/8" off the length of pull to fit the steel butplate correctly. There is a little wood filler under the plate, but it's steady and tight. It shoots great and is mechanically sound. I had to lightly file the friction stud, I guess it wore over years and wasn't holding tight. It's solid now. Otherwise it's spent many many years in the woods. Zero rust, I'm guessing 50% blueing, ya'll can see the rest.

Oh, and does it matter to the general gun folk if I add in the reloading dies, bullets and brass as a package??

Didn't you see how the blueing is wore off? That thing ain't worth a penny more than $30.

Ok, ok I'll up the bid to $75.00, but you got to throw in the dies.

You might check on gunbroker.com for simular model 71's. I'm sure there bringing premium prices.

If you aren't offering this rifle for sale, it may be more appropriate to move this over to the Levergun forum here. Up to you, whatever you would like us to do. As for the "appropriateness" of asking the value of a rifle you bought, I think that is very valid. And, we have several members that own 71's so I'm sure they could make some suggestions.

Nice find!

faucettb ;)

Thank you alyeska338 ,

I'm not sure really if I want to sell it yet. I'm one of those folks who have a real hard time letting go of a rifle, no matter what it is. I'm a "More is better" kind of Guy.

However, of course, every man has a price.

On your offer, would you be kind enough to change the title of the post to "Win Mod 71 Value Check" and please feel free to move it anywhere you feel appropriate.

Many thanks
