I guess it's true after all. 30-30 has what it takes to put meat on the table and trophies on the wall. These are photos a friend sent me. Truthfully, I've never met these hunters but I thought you guys would like to see the photos, too.

Great pictures. Leverguns can do it all IF the shooter is willing to hunt close enough to put the shot where it needs to be.

My wife and I lived in Alaska for many years, when we first got there, I was shocked to find out that most of the old sour doughs all had a 30-30s. I excepted to see big magnums out the ying yang, not so. To those folks the 30-30 has been making meat for them for decades. To them big guns were the 303 british, 8mm mauser, and the 30-40 krag and the 30-06, most in military rifles, because they are tough and proven. But the the old 30-30 was the do it all gun, no they didn't hunt grizzlies with them, least wise on purpose, but understand, these folks hunted to eat, not to get trophies, or wall mounts. The 30-30, didn't ruin meat, or hides, the ammo is cheap, and they did the job. Most used a peep sight, and shots were under 100yds, for moose and caribou.

My experience with moose is very limited - a big cow took off after us when we got too close to her calf. Fortunately we were in an aluminum fishing boat on the Snake River (Idaho) and were able to put some quick distance between us. I was about five at the time and still remember the advice given afterwards; stay away Moose. Based on how I remember her size, I'd want a "Spitzen-boomer 4000" if I were hunting them. They're huge! I've also heard that they have one of the shortest memories of any animal. When I lived in Colorado some time ago a wildlife biologist was on the radio and he claimed that if you disturbed a moose, you should just move out of its sight and sit quietly for two minutes. After that amount of time, the moose wouldn't know that you had ever existed. (Which, coincidentally is quite a bit like me and my chores at home.)
