Hey Guys
Can somebody give a simple breakdown of Bullet types?
What is meant by FMJ, cast and others ?
What good and bad about each type?
Thanks

FMJ = Full Metal Jacket, which means it is a lead bullet with the nose and body completely surrounded by a copper jacket. A bullet of this type does not expand much, and is best suited for target shooting (or military applications).
A cast bullet is lead cast in a mold without any type of jacket. Depending on the alloy, this can be very soft, which will deform and expand, or fairly hard, which will hold its shape and penetrate deeper.
A soft-point bullet has a copper jacket that does not cover the nose of the bullet. These are generally designed to expand in a fairly consistant (controlled) manner. Bullets of this type are typical for hunting.
A hollow-point bullet is a soft-point bullet with a hollow cavity instead of a nose. This tends to induce rapid, consistant expansion. One generally uses hollow-point bullets in handguns for personal defense, but they are also sometimes used in rifles for hunting.
