Years ago there were rumors of them in the Payson - Tonto Village area. Seems G&F and the locals shot them out as undesirables and haven't heard on any in the state since then.

Maybe someone else has later info.

Count your blessings... once they get a foothold (hoofhold?) they're **** to get rid of... on a sizable ranch they can do a lot of damage and compete with/intimidate the resident cattle and deer populations.

At one time feral pigs were on the AZ side of the CO River across from Needles according to sources I had.Feral pigs have been expanding their range all over the country .I have friends who have reported seeing pig tracks in some areas of CA I need to check out wherever water flows there's a good chance one will find feral pigs.

dont ask
It was stag and I saw nothing but Elk. Big elk, small elk, bull elk, cow elk, fat elk, sleeping elk, elk that would walk up to you and stand sideways at 10 yards, but a Deer? nooooo....

Like everybody else I got drawn for Piggy in the spring...

Understand they have a bunch of javelina permits left over - first time in a long time. Suppose folks are giving up spring hunting?

What do you think of the new Elk app's in February?

I've noticed that my favorite Javelina hunting grounds is on the verge of being closed by the rancher who owns the range (Unit 32, just east of Mammoth). If this is happening elsewhere in Javelina habitat, it could be the reason there's a lot of left over tags....

That's a good area - hunted it years ago.

Last javeline tag was for area 24B so I could hunt a little closer to home. Just NW of Superior. Saw the critters, but couldn't bring myself to pop the cap when I thought of having to clean the stinker.
That's the last time I applied for a tag.

Now that they are available for fall hunting, maybe more folks will go.

When I was a student in fisheries, range mgt & wildlife mgt at the univ of az there were a lot of squatters with illegally placed and locked gates on federal and state lands. Some decided they'd had a grazing lease for generations so the land was theirs and closed it to all.Don't know if this is still the case but most ranchers only owned a 1/4 to 1 section and the rest was leased for grazing but was still open for multiple use.I met a former nevada sheriffs member who said he started to go fishing on a stream in idaho when he was challenged by ranch hands and told to leave immediately. He told them he was on Taylor Grazing Act Land open to multiple use but the ranch hands insisted he leave and threatened him stating they were going for their weapons,he said if they approached him he'd arm himself with his 06 and take them out.The ranch hands told him everyone else left when they ordered them out but the retired sheriff knew the law,had his maps and stood his ground and went fishing.

kiddedop,

Can you tell me where to find those maps? One of my favorite coues areas is almost completely fenced off by "ranches", and I suspect that most of the land is actually multiple-use. I'm aware that this is how it's done, but being armed with the truth can work miracles.

Thanks for your input!!!

Thanks for your input!!!Check with the Bureau of Land Management,AZ Dept of Game & Fish Dept,US Forest Service ,Dept of Defense,US Geological Survey. There are businesses that have maps of your state that show land owned by the Gov't.When I was in AZ in the 1960's the gov't owned 66% of AZ.Hope this helps.
