I have a Model 39 Century that I want to mount a scope on, but I'm having trouble finding a base for it. Will the Weaver 90 base work with an octagon barrel? Some sites sites say it will and some say it won't. If not, what should I use?

I have an octagon barrelled 1897T with a Weaver #90 base mounted. No Problems. Since the action is basically the same as your 39 CL, I don't believe you'll have any trouble.
Admittedly, Weavers site is confusing on this issue ;)

Thanks for the reply, I finally found a store that had some in stock and it fits perfectly, don't know why Weaver says it won't work. Now I need to get a scope for it. Does anybody know of any decent scopes for $50 or less? I've heard that Tasco's $30 3-9x40 and the Simmons 22 Mag series are pretty good, has anybody used any of these? The scope will be used mostly for plinking and maybe squirel hunting. Also are the Bushnell 4x32 and 3-9x32 rimfire scopes any good, and which magnification would you recomend?

I like the Simmons 22MAG scopes, I have three of them, two 3-9's and one 4x, I like the 50yrd paralax, the mounts they come with aren't that great, but they work.

Which would you recomend for squirel hunting, 4x or 3-9x? I'm trying to decide between the Simmons and the Bushnell, has anybody here used the Bushnell?

I'd take a good look at the Cabala's pine ridge 2 by 7 variable they sell for shotgun and muzzle loaders. These scopes are 69.95 and have very bright optics and the controls work easily. They also have a 50 yard hyperfocal distance which is perfect for the 22's. I've put a bunch of these on 22 rimfires and am completly pleased.
Another one I would look at is The BSA sweet 22. It has drop adjustment built into the scope which makes hitting at most reasonable ranges pretty easy. I've seen these on sale for well under 70 bucks depending on the magnification you want.
I use a Weaver 2-10 classic on my CZ 452 and really pleased with it, but your talking nearly 170 bucks and both the scopes mentioned above will do a 22 well.

After reading some more reviews on different sites I'm probably going to get either Cabela's 2.5-7x32 shotgun/muzzle loader or Cabela's 4x40 rimfire scope. Which of these two would you recomend? And what kind of warranty do the Cabela's scopes have?
