I have the opportunity to buy a 39, serial nunber K114xx. The left side of the receiver has blueing wear and there is a chip out of the pistol grip. The owner wants $350 for the rifle. Is it woth that price? Thank You

Welcome to the forum.

I can't say for sure.... don't know if anybody can.... but I don't recall seeing a 39A under $300 for a long, long time. Actually it's kinda frightening what they are going for these days.

Might want to do some searching on Gunbroker, Auction Arms, etc., and that might help.

Good luck....

My listing indicates it was made in 1953. In Mar '05 I paid $300 for a 39A Mountie that was made in 1969 and in nearly new condition.

Around here, absolute beater 39a's start at $300. I'm not saying that's their "value", but it is about the bottom asking price. About 2 years back I bought a 1949-vintage example online for $235. It had been drilled and tapped for a vintage Marlin scope mount, the bluing is a bit worn, the butt plate was broken, and it was missing a screw for the forend tip, but it is a solid shooter and replacement parts cost me under $20. I consider myself very lucky!

I bought a 39A just two days ago. According to the serial # it was made in '69. I am not a professional gun apraiser (this is my first used gun purchase) but it is about as close to 100% as you can get, it has one small scratch on the left side of the reciever, I have seen many brand new guns on display with more damage on them than this gun has. The only other thing is the little "bull's eye" is missing from the stock, but I already have a replacement to put in it. I paid $325 for it. I think I did ok on the deal, I didn't walk away feeling like I stole it, but I don't feel like I paid way too much for it either....maybe you guys can tell me if I did ok or not.

I can't wait until this weekend to find out what kind of a shooter it is...from what I have read in different forums, it should be a good one. I sure hope so.

This is my first lever gun, I was thinking about getting a .45-70. Now I know I have to get one, the 39A needs a big brother.
