I use my Dillon RL 550 as a single stage press. I use all of the dies in the tool head and just don't use the locator buttons. I just slide a shell into the station that I want to use, stroke the press and remove the shell. I don't use the automatic powder measure for rifle loading. I find that is just saves the time of having to remove the dies for each stage on a single stage press. I just change the tool head and caliber conversion plate and I'm on the way.
Anybody else use this operation?
I do pretty much the same thing. I do use the powder measure, but I just load one round at a time, due to the fact that I'm a novice reloader. Eventually, I 'll probably be able to use the press to it's fullest, but for now, I'm more concerned with not creating a problem.

Once you set each station on the press, you should be ready to go. Checking at each station is still possible. As you become accustomed to the sights and sounds, and watch the critical spots, it gets easier, and you will becom faster without pushing the safety envelope.

I like the idea of having all of the dies set and not having to worry about changing them for each stage. For general pistol loads, I will use the auto powder measure/dump. For precise rifle and pistol, I alway measure each charge. The Dillon tool heads are cheap enough for the convienence of not having to worry about die settings.
