I'd been contemplating this purchase for the last year or so. The PACT seems to have a good reputation, is MADE in the USA, and has a lifetime warranty. They’re on sale till Jan 15th for only $200 (shipped). I also like that they seem to have “speeded them” up as far as throwing charges.
I’ve always weighed ALL my rifle charges, since I figure all the match grade primers, case trimming and other labor intensive processes would be a waste if I didn’t. I always just threw a light charge and trickled it up by hand. I then seat the bullet using my Rockchucker, then jump to my RS press for the crimping die and start all over again.. Given my “slow” habitual way of doing things, I’m thinking this will do more to speed up my reloading process that anything else since I have NO desire to use a progressive press.
I try and load the “finest quality” ammunition – time be darned. I have heard a few comments that the “newer, faster” dispensers would take a few throws to settle in and get accurate. Should I be concerned enough to keep the beam scale out to keep it “honest”? Is there a certain “number” of throws, that should be done before actual case charging begins?
Obviously, skipping the time-consuming “beam-scale measurement” has motivated my desire to get this, but I just want to know that they can be trusted, and yes – I understand it’s good to let them warm-up for a while before use. Thanks for any input! I’ll report on how well this works when I get it.
