I have an original Marlin 39. 24" oct.barrel, case color is beautiful, blueing is 98+%, stock is 97% (a couple of small marks where it banged against another rifle in the gun safe). Overall, it looks new. Serial # is 63xx. I think it may be a first year gun...Also, I looked in the bluebook and value was listed at $3000.00+. Is that realistic?

No it is not realistic unless someone is willing to pay that amount.

I agree that $3000+ is high, to high.
Your gun is not NIB or even Like New (100%), as you describe it.
Does it have a Model 97 type knurled latch release on the mag tube? Does it have Rocky Mountain rear sights and an ivory bead on the front? Is the lever and hammer case colored? Does it have a star stamped on the tang? There are many variables that effect value. Course, the most important one is finding someone willing to pay top dollar for what you have. I would not venture a FMV site unseen but I would think half your figure is more realistic.
To learn the 'absolute' about a particular Marlin of this vintage try the Buffalo Bill Historical Center www.bbhc.org
They will research the serial number of your gun for a fee and send you a letter describing all they know of it. Well worth the cost, especially if you are thinking of selling.
