Levergunners,
I'd like to know the height of the aperture of a William's FP from the receiver of a Winchester BB .375W. I am going to order one, and I need this measure for choosing the proper front sight.

I have the rifle out and am trying to figure out how to take a measurement that will be useful. Run the sight all the way down and measure the height above the bolt? I have a Marbles bead front sight on it at the moment. I'll try to measure it as it works well for elevation.

It would be very kind of you! :)

If you go to Brownell's tech site they have the tools and formulas for figuring out what sight you will need. You can also send them a question and they are pretty quick in getting back to you.

I lowered the Williams sight down to the top mark on the slide. Measuring from the top of the bolt to the center of the eye hole is .333”.
I opened the bolt and measured from the top of the bolt to the center of the firing pin hole, this came out to .300”. So this means from the approximate center of the bore to the center of the eye hole is .633”. A pretty rough estimate I will admit.
My barrel measures about .592” at the muzzle. I have a Marbles .094” diameter gold bead (sight .320” high) and the total ramp and sight measure .459” above the top of the barrel. This gives a rough height from the center of the bore to the center of the bead as .696”.
If I remember correctly the original front sight was .310” high. Brownells suggests a front sight .125” taller when installing a Williams receiver sight. I have front sights of various heights and the current sight is useable but a bit low for all around work.
I hope there are enough measurements here to give a start.

Indeed these are the measurements I needed! :) Thanks!
I have the proper height in the standard irons, but I am not quite fond of them. However, with your measurements, I can make an estimation, choose a front sight and finally make the necessary adjustments with the new reciever sight.

I have now compared my measurements with yours. Your rifle has a relation of .699" / .633", while mine has .783"/787" over the original irons. It my be that tere seem to have been some sort of recieversight on the rifle, as the screws are a little dinged.
I'll order a slightly higher red Fire sight bead with the Foolproof.
When the sights have come with post, I'll report of my results. It will take some weeks.
Regards,
Old Sh.
