I guess it is time to get those beans in the ground. I just plant and when they are gone I plant again. If the rain comes I usually get in three plantings in my small plots which I expand a little each year. That and mineral lics seem to keep the deer in the area pretty well. In Oct I will plant a fall mix, usually Penington and then mow that the next years until the clover is gone. Kind of a perrenial annual mix rotation kind of thing, I guess. Remember "if the women can't find ya handsome, they can find ya handy." RG
I know it's a typo, Chief -
But, I couldn't help conjuring up images of deer feeding on feet growing up out of the ground. :D

I planted a couple of weeks ago on the outlook of (finally) rain. Then.........no freekin' rain. My plot is as dry as a bone. The fire danger here(NW Fla) is thru the roof and still no rain in sight.
I had left over seed from the last club that I belonged to so I threw that in also. I put in about half a bag(25lbs) of chufas,40# of corn, sunflower seeds, and a couple of bags of bird seed. Don't know what the birdseed is when it comes up but the deer love it,as they do corn when it is <4" tall.
My plot in this new club is right on the edge of the river swamp so the hogs are thick. They have worked my plot over in good shape. There are several sounders of 30-50 pounders as well as several 180#+ sows. I sat my shooting house the other day and also saw a good boar with nice cutters.
My timed feeder is slinging a mixture of corn, hog finisher, and dog food. They absolutely love it.
Got a "there I was,and this is no s----" story for ya'll also. How many of you hog hunters know that a smaller hog(<30# or so) will play with a stick similar to a dog ??? I watched several do just that the other day. They will pick it up in their teeth and run around with it trying to keep it away from the other shoats. All the while the mature hogs look at them like they're crazy. They will also flip it up in the air and try to head but it when it's coming down. Just playing I guess. (or maybe it's the dog food??) I was wondering how all the sticks were getting into my plot. I throw 10 or so off the plot every time I go there.
After we finally get some rain I will throw something else on my plot and disc it in also. I want it to stay as green as possible. ------pruhdlr

I'm not planting this spring but will plant in the fall. We have had an wet spring and all the native stuff is growing great. That is the good thing about my area in Texas, the native brush is extremely high in protein so we will have a good horn and health year with little tractor time.
