Hi all, I'm new to both this forum and leverguns in general and have a question regarding ammunition. I've recently stumbled across a Winchester 94 in .30-30 at a local gunstore and have been doing as much research into the gun as I can before I make a decision to buy it. I do not know yet if the gun is a pre-64, as I didnt know what to look for the first time around. I do know that it was manufactured prior to the cross-bolt safety cut-in. Now, a question that I haven't been able to find the answer to is this: is there any reason the 94 (pre or post '64) will not fire this new LeverEvolution ammunition that Hornady is putting out? Just from thinking about it, I do not see any reason why it wouldn't, but I want to be sure.

This is not an issue that will make or break the gun for me. I would be perfectly happy shooting "normal" bullets, and probably will more often than not. At this point, I am just trying to evaluate the gun so that I know exactly what I am getting should I decide to go for it. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

The new ammo should work just fine. Good luck.

welcome
check the serial number on that '94.The 1964's were below 2,800000
Whatever the number,you'll like it.

Thanks Mike and Krag. The SN is on the list of things to check for the gun. I figure that either way it'll be a good rifle.

BTW, is there anything in particular I should look for besides an approx. date of manufacture?
