This seems like it would be a fun cartridge to fool around with. I can't find a drawing or picture but it is, more or less, a K-Hornet shortened to an inch long or just under. Supposedly matches .22WMR velocities. Maybe would be a nice case to shoot plain base cast bullets out of.

I wonder if the Ruger .22 Hornet magazines would feed them, maybe with some modifications?

Cooper chambers rifles for it, might have as much in a custom Ruger as the Cooper would cost. Of course, the Cooper would be a single shot.

Sounds like a way to have a reloadable 22 WMR (just hate to pay that kind of money on throw-away ammo - same for my .17 HMR) and have a fun cartridge.

Don't know why the 77/22 Hornet magazine wouldn't feed the cartridge - just have a little longer feed to the chamber is all. As for cast bullets, they would probably be OK if you kept the velocities down below 2200 fps - otherwise, would probably lead the bore after a few shots.

Sounds to me like you need a subscription to the Small Caliber News

http://www.smallcaliber.com/index.htm

Go to back issues and look for the Summer 1999 issue - .22 Squirrel pistol. There are other articles on the .22 Squirrel but more on the .17 Squirrel

I just dropped my subscription to Rifle magazine and the Small Caliber News is on the short list as a replacement. My wife is a big fan of the 17 and .22 Cooper Centerfire’s and has wanted one for many years.

And why is it that you haven't bought one for her? I bet she would let you shoot it sometimes.

There is a local store that has a good selection of Coopers and they are a fine looking rifle.

My honey is a youngest child - she would let me CLEAN it for her... ;)

Funny you say that; I think the smaller .17 calibers are interesting but I don't know that I could bear to clean one. .22s are pain enough to me.

Don't remember the name, but there is a 25 cal rook rifle cartridge that is about the same thing.
