DOes Idaho require hunter orange during elk/mulie season? The last time I hunted Idaho was a few years ago and we didn't need orange for spring bear.

Gotta know what to pack.

Thanks.

No, it's not required, but I'd highly recommend it. I teach hunter education here, so I might be biased. :)

Seriously, though, all but one hunting-related shooting fatality I'm aware of in the state have been people NOT wearing orange. The one guy who was shot while wearing orange was killed under somewhat suspicious circumstances, IIRC, but no charges were ever filed.

OK, I'm off my hunter's ed soapbox.

Lots of guys here don't wear orange or red because it's not required, but If you've ever had someone check you out with a rifle scope you'd think well about what IDShooter said.

I used to wear just camo and a couple of times when I'm glassing the area with binocs I've found someone with a riflescope pointed right at me.

It's a gut wrenching feeling. It's also why I try to teach my grandkids and fellow hunters to never use the riflescope for anything but shooting at game. That's what binocs and spotting scopes are for.

I just shudder at the thought of someone looking at me thru a rifle scope with a 2 pound trigger between me and a bullet coming at me. Wear a red or orange hat at least. I've never seen one on a deer or elk.

It's required here in WA, so I've no shortage of orange shirts, vests, hats, coats and gloves.

Thanks!

fwiw, i started wearing blaze camo a while back regardless where or when i hunt. all indications are that people see me while animals do not.
