i have the opportunity to buy an old Marlin model 39 lever actuited 22 rifle. I think that it is pretty old since it has an octagonal barrel and no safety that I can find.
Can anyone give me any advice about how to find out more about the rifle. The Marlin Custoomer Service people said Wow That is really old.
The Serial number is 89XX
Anything that anybody can help with will be appreciated.

According to Oldguns.net, that rifle was manufactured in 1885!

You might want to go back and edit your post and X out the last couple digits of the s/n for safety reasons.
