I took your advise,an used mineral spirits instead of a stronger solvent.
You said that would take a little longer, but, after two days,I see no action,at all.How long should I wait?
thanks

Frank:
Truth told, I've forgotten what we were soaking.

Another reason for little action,is that the gun,a Fulton Special 12 gauge double,is not very dirty. It was made in 1927.

Whatever is soluable has done it's thing. Guess it's time to attack it with a tooth brush ( I proably buy toothbrushes twice as often than the Dentist recommends just to get to the old one while it's still got a bit of life in it).
The other cleaning house-hold help that's worked well for me might be the most gentle of "abrasives" I can find: old panty hose. Looked at under magnification, the stuff is like miniature plastic mail; full of little pockets and spaces, it works well on bluing you'd not want to replace.

My favorite semi abrasive cloth is Denim. Nylon hose should be easier to use in tight places.
Thanks

lol I know I'm a little behind, but I just saw this post.
I'd love to see the faces of the people in the store when you go in to buy pantyhose!

If you have a speck or to that the rust is above the metal surface instead of in the metal, a old trick we did years ago, use a copper penny laid flat on the surface and with little pressure, likely rub, not hard. If the rust in high instead of lowit will help!
I just got my Fulton, Hunter Firearms Co. Has Diamonds echited reciever, only made one year 1920 and was never listed in there cataloug. I wished the blueing was as tight as the action.
When you get it cleaned as good as you can, get you some Free Breeze from Midway or Brownells, shoot it good, let it set over night a wipe clean! i have 2 Old Hawes 45LC that I took down to bare metal and buff, shot those, and have handled them everyday for 4 weeks, and have not put anything else on them, with not a spec of rust.
Hope this helps

Greg I have a Fulton Special,made by Hunter Arms.It has an 'F' prefix,and probably made in 1927.
It has a singlespring to operate both sears. Is yours similar?
I need help in reassembling it.
