Anyone have one of these in .22, I looked at one the other day and they seemed really nice, looked like it would be a lot of fun. I've wanted a .22 leveraction forever and just never got around to getting one but now I'd like to get one, is the frame solid brass or plated? I looked at one of the plain henrys but it just looked cheap to me especially the plastic front sight blade. Thanks

It's called a "Golden Boy" - yeah, it sure is pretty, and I'd love to have one. It's a fine gun, but...
1) The "brass" is actually plating. I don't know if they've started shipping them with the brass-plated front barrel band, but I do know you can order one from Henry if you want it.
2) The receiver cover does not have a dovetail on it. This means that if you want to mount a scope, you have to buy Henry's cantilever scope mount and (I think) have tour gun drilled/tapped so it can be mounted. The lack of a receiver groove also means you can't mount a receiver peep sight - at all.
3) If you don't want to mount a scope, but want to replace the stock buckhorn rear sight, your only recourse is to mount a tang sight. Unless you're willing to experiment with tang sights not actually intended for use on the Golden Boy, you only recourse is the Marbles tang sight. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as the Marbles tang sights are more than adequate to do the job, but I find a lack of choice disturbing.
4) Some people don't like the more severe drop in the comb that the Golden Boy exhibits. You should probably find a local shop that has one, and hold it up to your shoulder to make sure it''ll be comfortable for you to shoot.
I have a Henry - the H001T. Originally, I was going to buy a Golden Boy, but I wanted a wider choice of rear-sights, and I was afraid I'd scratch the brass plating up. So, I got the H001T. It's got the octagon barrel like the Golden Boy, but it has a painted receiver cover that has a 3/8 dovetail on it, and the comb drop is a more comfortable fit for me. Another benefit is that the H001T is less expensive.
Right now, I have a Lyman 17A font globe sight on my Henry, and a Marbles tang sight. I also found a creedmore-style tang sight that is very close to being a perfect fit on my H001T, and beside looking more "period correct" for a lever gun, it's got a marked vernier for elevation.
I love my Henry.

thanks, I haven't seen the one you have yet, I did look and try out a golden boy at a local shop and really liked the feel of it, didn't know the reciever was plated though, that kind of worries me as I will be using this allot. I never thought about the sights as I have no intentions of changing them out or adding to them, I like the old iron sights just like they are. I also thought the wood on the golden boy was much nicer looking than the others. Still would like to hear from some one that owns a golden boy. Thanks

I've got a "Golden Boy" and it's a nice riffle, the sights that come on the gun are some of the WORST I've EVER seen! I was considering the Marbles tang sight until I saw the price, I wonder if they're gold plated!?
The "Brasslite" plating on the receiver is rather durable.

Hey, if you guys are interested, I started up the Henry Lever Gun Internet Competition. It doesn't cost anything to participate, and it's open to all Henry lever guns, regardless of the caliber. Check it out.
