I have a Wards Western Field 22. The only number on it is 93M-491A, & from what I can gather, it is a Mossberg 46b. Is this correct? I'm not sure when it was produced, but it's been in the family for many years. The stock is cracked at the trigger guard. Any ideas on how to get a replacement? I'd prefer a vintage one...it's very comfortable & looks good on the rifle. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum Tuck. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

I moved this over the the 22 rifle forum. Here's a place to check on parts that may be of some help to you.

Simple is good. I didn't even see this forum when I posted. After posting here, I found a stock. It's still in shipping, but I hope it works.

Next questions:

I think the rear peep sight was an s130. I remember seeing it years ago, and it's possible that it's still around somewhere. If not, what is a good price for one? I saw one at $75, but that seemed steep to me.

Any good guidance as to the selectable front sights? It has 4 different flip-up sights. Is there a method to the madness, or just personal preference?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Tuck,

Yes, those rear sights are getting higher all the time on ebay. I found a site once on the net, I'll see if i can find it again.

What are you going to do w/the old stock? If it's junk to you, I'd like to try to repair it.

I saw an S330 sight on ebay, but everything I've seen points to an s130 for this rifle.

I actually plan to keep the original stock, just for sentimental reasons. It was repaired with metal strips on each side of the stock many years ago, and now they're cracking out.

When I get the new stock & make sure it fits, I plan to take my 13 & 15 yo girls out to teach them to shoot.

Last question:

Does anyone know an approximate price to restore the finish on the metal? This won't be a mantle ornament, but I want it to stay in good shape.

"Around here" (Okla.) the usual price of a gunsmith re-blue job is $100.'ish.
About your old stock. I've had incredable success at repairing cracked and even broken gunstocks w/Gorilla Glue (available @ Wal-Mart). It's GOOD STUFF!
Just follow the directions. Be advised that it EXPANDS as it dries. This good as it will expand into crevises and cracks that normal glue might not get into. But you will want to keep tabs on it and wipe away exess glue that expands out onto the exterior stock. Once it dries, it dries hard and strong.
