I looked at a Remington 700 ADL in .30-06 (manufactured 1977). Upon examination everything looked good except for the front of the bolt. I noticed that the edges around the very front of the plunger had sharp edges that went in a (screw type) pattern. It did not look normal to me, so I went home and pulled the bolts on my other 700's and they looked nothing like that.
Are those marks from the bolt wrenching down on the round when chambered or not seating correctly with the barrel? The action itself is smooth and does not feel like it's binding when closing the bolt. The pattern looked almost like it should be there. Were there any bolts that had edges patterned like that? Does this make this a gun to avoid or no big deal?

Sounds almost like you're discribing machine chatter on the face or the edge of the plunger. If that is what it is, it shouldn't effect the function of the plunger or ejector as this is what it is called. Just a cosmetic thing and you could punch out the ejector pin and chuck it up in a drill chuck and polish it with some fine sandpaper. If you do that, place a baggy over the end of the bolt and push the punch through the baggy material so when you punch the pin out the ejector and spring won't fly over to the other side of the room and hid from you forever.

Panhandlepr, thanks for the response. The price on the rifle is good so I think I will give it a shot (so to speak).
