I am looking to buy a Ruger k10/22-T and I am wondering if it is possible to add sights to it
I want to be able to shoot it with out a scope sometimes..
also, what type of scope I will be needing for a gun such as this one, preferably under $100 :D
any information I can get on this would be great.
Thanks

I would post on rimfirecentral.com . They cater to 10/22 crowd much better. I have gotten a lot of good info from that site.

rimfirecentral is a great place to look for 1022 answers... i did see some good looking sights for them in my last brownell's catalog... you might look there........

I put together a 10/22 with a Fajen hunting stock and a 16" fluted bull barrel. For a scope I went with a Simmons 3-9X32 A/O 22 mag scope. You can find them online for less than $100, plus the A/O feature lets you focus to your desired shooting yardage. Nice scope with not one problem.

From a gunsmiths point of view there may be some problems with the spiral barrel and drilling and tapping for a set of open sights. You might be better off getting an aftermarket target barrel from one of the suppliers making them such as Green Mountain and having it drilled and tapped for sights. This is also going to make it easier to sell your rifle later on with the stock barrel of the 10-22T.

As for scopes in this price range you might want to check out Cabela's Pine ridge models. I've had really good luck with them and their warrentee policy is just excellent. I have a Weaver 2 to 10 on my CZ 452 Bolt gun and it works very well.

Well, you would need to have a smith add the sights onto the barrel... the .920 target barrels aren't set up for them at all, and this would probably be more difficult if the k10/22t has hammer-forged barrel (which means it wouldn't be perfectly round).

My advice... get a 10/22 with a standard barrel, whatever length you like, then head to Rimfirecentral and talk to a guy named Nemohunter. You can send him the barrel, and he cuts the barrel back a little and re-chambers it with a benz chamber (and I think laps the bore, but I'm not sure). Drop in a VQ trigger kit, which will greatly improve the trigger, and if you can glassbed the rifle.

That will give you a shooter with a factory barrel that keeps its sights.

*Edit... I did look and Green Mountain makes a .920 barrel with fiber-optic sights, however it costs over $200. According to the Ruger website, the difference in MSRP between the K10/22T and standard rifle with an 18 1/2" sporter barrel is about $260... and in that difference you could make alot of changes to the standard 10/22 to match the performance of the K10/22T if you wanted.

YOu would not need to drill and tap one of those barrels. Just get a set of sights that require a dovetail. A gunsmith can cut a dovetail in that T barrel, no problem. You just need a dovetail rear sight and a front dovetail post sight.

To be frank you can pick up a target barrel for your 10-22 for around a hundred bucks. Another 35 to 45 to have a set of sights put on it. If you install sights in the hammer forged barrel your going to make the value of the original quite a bit less than your initial cost.

I'd really consider that before I had anything done to the original barrel. 10-22 barrels are simple to take off and install. It takes about 15 minutes to swap them around and all you need is an allen wrench.

That model of 10-22 was designed to shoot with a scope and the expense of making it an open sight rig along with the problems of doing so with the spiral hammer forged barrel would be better be served just installing an aftermarket barrel.

My 2 cents.

Are all of the Ruger factory bull barrels hammer forged? I was probably thinking having sights installed would be more expensive/complicated than it would actually be.

how much would it cost to have a gun smith cut the dovetails into a barrel?? it would make an interesting and unique heavy barreled 1022 custom........you could have just front globe sight installed and use the scope mount to put an aperture rear sight in... that's what i'd opt for..... have brownell's send you a catalog to see what you can come up with..
