I just joined this forum looking for some insight from some more experienced shooters. First of all I have had at least one firearm most of my life whether it be a pellet gun or something with a little more kick. At the moment I have no rifles in my possession. I have been saving some money for a short while and am looking for something along the lines of a .22, I just want to ask what I may find for under two-hundred that has a respectable accuracy. A little help is appreciated from a young gun owner.

Welcome to the Forum, even though Im not a young fella.
I'm not aware of any new rifle that I would want, that cost's less then $200.
But I have't been looking too hard,either.

well thats not very helpful, although I've heard a remington .22 is a great rifle and they can get pretty inexpensive.

You can get a Marlin 60, a Ruger 10/22, a Mossberg 802 or 702 all for under $200. All are fine shooting .22's. Although I prefer the 60, 10/22's have a huge aftermarket parts catalog if you want to modify. The 802 and 702 are good shooting little guns (I bought my son one for Christmas) but the stock feels kind of cheap.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

I'd go for a Ruger 10/22 - find a good one used somewhere if you can. As far as I know, these are dandy little rifles. I've never owned one myself, but several of my friend's have and no one has ever complained. To top it off, just as Good_Steward said, there are tons of add-ons and that kind of thing if you want.

When I was a kid, I had the good fortune to be able to use an early 50s era Marlin 39A lever action. Now THAT was a sweet little rifle, but I doubt if you can find one of those under $200.

I own a couple of Ruger 10-22s and really like them. I have the blued wood stock one and the stainless with the synthetic stock. The stainless is my all weather rifle since it is impervious to most any type of moisture. I think both cost around $200 or less. Check your local pawn shops. You can sometimes pick up a brand new rifle for a lot less money.

I've just been over to GunsAmerica (by the way, is that site good or bad?) and there are a number of Ruger 10/22s in the $200 range - some below. There are also 10/22s that have been modified that are quite a bit more expensive.

My dad has a marlin 925. I know that from the few I've seen on websites like www.gunbroker.com that they are usually less than $200. It shoots pretty good I think for a .22 under $200. I recently bought a remington model 5. I like that more than my dads marlin but I also paid a little more. I'm pretty sure I payed $350 for it with a 3-9 scope on it. It shoots pretty good. As far as semi-autos I don't know because you can't hunt with them here so I don't know anyone that has one.
